First of all, why do you want to network?
If your answer is:
- to meet new people
- promote your business
- generate leads
- sell your products and services
- and form business partnerships…
then you’d be right. Networking can help you accomplish these goals and much more. The adage: “it’s not what you know, but who you know” still rings true more so in today’s environment. It’s what can open many doors for you and your projects.
To help you with that, here are some of my top networking tips for building my successful business and growing my networks. These tips work wonderfully well, whether you are just starting or already a pro. Or perhaps you’ve achieved a few milestones and want to go further or stay the course.
Figure out your purpose
Figure out why it matters so much to you. This is one of the keys to success in your networking journey, as it will put you in the right mindset. The clearer you are in your “why”, the easier it will be to make it through the most difficult moments or obstacles that come your way. This will also help you stay committed to building your network.
Don’t Do It Alone
Build your network. Surround yourself with people who will support you and remind you of your true aspirations. And don’t be afraid to express these aspirations and share it with a community of people who will have your back.
Connect
Truly connect and engage. That’s what networking is all about. It’s not just about getting someone’s phone number, email, and connecting on social media. It’s about finding out how you can help people in your network who will help you in your projects– and vice versa, and truly ENGAGE and build that relationship deeper and wider.
Think Bigger
Networking can bring you opportunities for growth that are beyond anything you can imagine, so be ready to go BIG! If you thought of 50 people in your network, think of 5000. You only get what you can imagine.
Be Open
See networking as a learning opportunity, allowing you to find tips & tools to achieve anything you want faster and in a more fulfilling way.
See others as allies, not competitors.
There’s enough business for everyone on this planet. That’s the truth. So don’t be afraid to connect with people in the same business category as yours. Just remember to seek relationships and partnerships that are mutually beneficial.
It goes both ways
You get what you put out. This is another truth bomb. So if you want referrals and introductions to important people, you also need to do the same. Give referrals and make introductions. That’s how you build strong connections and nurture and strengthen relationships that will continue to provide you with what you need.
Make a difference
Networking bridges the distance between people who you might not have met otherwise, bringing together their unique talents, capacities and experiences and creating a world of possibilities. Their collective contribution makes the world a better place.
